Van Briggle is the oldest continuously operating art pottery in the United States. It was started in 1901 by Artus and Anne Van Briggle. Artus Van Briggle’s pottery was foundational to American Art Pottery. He significantly influenced the Art Nouveau movement in the US. He was a talented painter who won awards in Europe and his distinctive pottery glazes were awarded honors from places like The Paris Salon, the St. Louis Exposition, The Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition and American Arts and Crafts Exhibition in Boston.
